Researching the definition/concept of a construct (in science, in philosophy, in art) and came across a listing for On new constructs in art by Ernest Edmonds in the publications section of the compArt | center of excellence digital art database. Need to take a closer look at this database, they’re currently drawing attention to the early phase of digital art (roughly 1950 to 1980).

Linter (scss-lint) not working in Atom

Linting package linter-scss-lint was not working properly for me, with no linting occurring and no errors thrown. On top of that, other linters were functioning properly (i.e. linter-jshint). Came across issue Linters not linting…, and one comment suggested opening Atom from the command line. Tried this, and linter-scss-lint began working properly. Upon further searching, found issue noting that $PATH only present when Atom is launched from the command line.

Look in to this with Sam, he’s not having the same problems even though our .bash_profile and .bashrc files are the same. Check versions of Atom, all packages, Ruby, etc.

Judd essay on function v. art

I’ll be your interface* is a recently-closed (shame!) exhibition organised by Roxana Fabius at the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College. The exhibition featured recent work by Dexter Sinister and objects from the Marieluise Hessel Collection.

There was a talk in March at the Judd Foundation (NYC) about work that doesn’t make a “crisp distinction” between function and art, sounded interesting (see more on Dexter Sinister).

Required further reading since I missed the talk: Donald Judd, It’s Hard to Find a Good Lamp, 1993.

Whiskey Sour recipe

Was shown the light this past New Years and have been enjoying whiskey sours ever since. Keep forgetting the recipe though.

Homer Sourball

Pour 2 parts bourbon, 1 part fresh lemon juice (or lime in a pinch), ½ part simple syrup, and ½ part egg white in to a shaker and shake for 20-30 seconds. The proteins in the egg generate significant foam and this will add pressure, so hold it tight. Next, add cubed ice and shake hard until very cold. Strain into a tumbler with fresh ice, and garnish with an orange peel twist if you’ve got it.

Note: Aquafaba (the liquid from a can of chickpeas) also works if you don’t want to use egg whites. The egg white from one US large egg is roughly 1 oz, so this is a great cocktail to make in batches of 2.

Oatmeal bread reference

Honey Oat Bread recipe

Modifications / Measurements

  • 1/4 c (USA) = 45g butter, no need to melt
  • Mixed dry active yeast directly in to dry ingredients, works fine
  • Decrease oats to 160g
  • Increase bread flour to 275g, more if using whole wheat/brown

Notes

Makes a pretty wet dough. Knead very thoroughly. Thoroughly preheat oven to prevent dense bottom of loaf. Try preheating oven w/ tray, then placing loaf tin on that to bake.
